A classic Rioja. To be compared with more modern Spanish wines. From my point of view, the modern and the old marry perfectly. Each is beautiful in its own way and enriches the interior space.
A classic Rioja, but lively and fresh. Currants, dried cherries, crunchy and dried fruits highlight the very present spices; Vanilla, tobacco, chocolate, smoky, liquorice, toasted oak complete the picture. The long finish is lively with melted tannins.  

To be enjoyed around a milk-fed lamb roasted with thyme, or accompanied by a chorizo ​​cake, or even a grilled rib of beef.

The nose of Viña Tondonia Reserva 2008 is very elegant, fresh and with a touch of herbs, beginning to show the complexity of aged wines which are sometimes still too young when released more than 10 years from the vintage! The palate is medium bodied, with lightness and depth, very classic with extra freshness and everything needed for a long bottle development. This is the most Tondonia of the two vintages I tasted side by side. There are notes of maple syrup, smoke, licorice and crunchy fruit. The palate is more austere, crunchy and reveals the calcareous character of the soils. There is more definition and precision here.

A smell of red apple skin. The snap of green beans. Mushroom compost. Coffee beans in yuzu syrup. How to describe this wine at the end of a long tasting... it's just indescribably beautiful. A Lindenberg poem? Shadows on the cobblestones? A sunset illuminating old stone walls? Roasted chestnuts on a winter night? It defies description. I wanted to spend hours with this wine, to let myself be enchanted by it with total abandon. Criminally underpaid. VVGV (TC)

Vinous: 94/100

Dark garnet with shiny edges. The expressive bouquet features scents of red and black currant, dried cherry, cigar box, vanilla, rose oil and dried tobacco, along with a top note of cooking spices. Flavors of red and black berries, floral pastilles and chewing tobacco are seductively sweet and energetic, well-focused and spicy. Notes of candied rose and vanilla linger on the long, lively finish, which is framed by soft, well-balanced tannins.
