This wine is an enchanted discovery where we discover at the bend of the path, here wild cherries and an orange zest, there a carpet of fragrant flowers, a bouquet of violets spread on an undergrowth soil or even a carpet raspberries spiced with cinnamon.
The aromatic power, liveliness and freshness of the wine are simply breathtaking. The mouth would like to never leave these perfumes which dress it with sensuality and elegance.

The Bibi Graetz 2021 Colore is a Sangiovese from old vines, but otherwise the vinification and oak regime are identical to those of the other great red wine, Testamatta. In this case, the fruits come from the Lamole region, where the vineyards are located 600 meters above sea level. Some are south-facing, but at altitude. As Bibi explains: “Colore brings power and freshness, while Testamatta brings transparency and freshness.” Le Colore shows the pure energy and liveliness of Sangiovese with notes of violet, wild cherry and orange zest. The wine presents an elegantly earthy side with a very defined palate, animated by very fine and silent tannins. This is a beautiful wine with a delicately sweet cherry finish. Bibi has made few changes to this wine over the years (with the exception of installing a new winery in Fiesole) in order to achieve an ideal or benchmark for Sangiovese. His 2021 is his best wine yet. Production is 35,000 bottles, which is slightly lower than the last vintage.

Intense aromas of purple fruits such as raspberry, spices, lead pencil and granite. There are also fragrant flowers. Full-bodied, tight with balanced tannins that show transparency and concentration. Crunchy and very long. Best after 2028, when it opens up and integrates beautifully.

Another excellent wine from Bibi Graetz, made from a selection of old Sangiovese vines. The nose is grassy and spicy, fragrant but with savory rather than floral or fruity aspects. Intense and direct, it hits hard, with energy and forward movement. It is so elegant and well defined, soft but lively and energetic, with beautifully executed tannins. Almost sumptuous and soft, it gives weight and texture to the palate while being quite light and airy overall. Complex and invigorating, fresh and wild at the same time - I love its character, it is pure but with a sense of authenticity that perfectly encapsulates the terroir and the philosophy of winemaking. It ends with very appetizing notes of mint, licorice, spicy blackcurrant and fresh cherry!

The 2021 Colore, 100% Sangiovese, is a medium garnet-purple color. After swirling it a bit, a glorious scent of raspberry coulis, morello cherry and rose oil emerges from the glass, followed by notes of cinnamon toast, Sichuan pepper and undergrowth. The medium-bodied palate is covered in vibrant red berries and floral layers, framed by deliciously ripe, fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing with epic, fragrant length. This wine is absolutely magnificent!

I love this wine, its lyricism and generosity, and its ever-living representation of fruit and stones. It is so juicy, so stretched, it matches the vintage, builds on its low yields, with greengage, raspberries, plums, sweet spices, lemongrass, minerality dotted with peel tangerine and sage. Translucent and yet full of flavor, it invites you once again to sit in a chair, gather your friends and enjoy. A brilliant wine and a brilliant winemaker in Bibi Graetz. Coming from a 58 hectare estate, Colore comes from the oldest Sangiovese vineyards, which are up to 135 years old.
