Le Clos des Goisses offers one of its best vintages ever produced.
Intensity, power, purity, richness, smoothness and elegance: a beautiful yellow with silver reflections, it presents great complexity with notes of apple, pear, peach, pomelo, tangerine, strawberry, raspberry mixed with a hint of ginger, chalky notes enhanced by brioche and rye bread crumbs,
To be enjoyed with poached sole or baked sea bass.

A subtle sublimation of power. The nose opens with an apple sweetness and an immediate feeling of smoothness. The palate is intense, bold but measured, there is power and beautifully defined and flexed muscles. The mousse is extremely fine, the salty and peppery verve of the crumb of fresh rye bread is underlined by a deep vein of chalky freshness. Sublime and timeless.

Aromas of bread dough, tangerine, strawberry, raspberry and light dry earth continue into a full body with lightly candied fruit, phenolic tension and a clear, bright finish. Mineral. Pure. Dry and layer at the end with a note of chalk. No harm. 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay. Drink now...

Le Clos des Goisses Extra-Brut 2012 is a champagne of extraordinary elegance and finesse. Silky and aromatic, the 2012 impresses with its mid-weight and refined personality. Notes of kirsch, red plum, flowers and chamomile gently open in the glass. Le Clos des Goisses is often a rich and vinous champagne, but the 2012 is sober and discreet, as it should be. Its aging potential will be measured in decades, not years. Unfortunately, the severe spring frosts washed away 50% of the harvest. According to Charles Philipponnat, the Pinot resisted better than the Chardonnay. Ultimately, however, the Goisses blend is a typical blend of two-thirds Pinot and one-third Chardonnay. The dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. (Originally published May 2021)

We find here all the style of Clos des Goisses: aromas of apricot, honey and toast. It is rich and concentrated, while maintaining excellent freshness. Jorez indicates a raspberry seed aroma, which is correct. The glass opens with a raspberry sorbet and a hint of ginger. On the palate it is intense and fresh, slightly toasted. Round, deep and long with a nice fruity sweetness. Creamy, powerful and yet it seems sweet next to the late disgorged 1996 LV. The night I tasted it, it went wonderfully with flatbread with truffles. Still so young and with great aging potential.

Robert Parker : 97+/100
Disgorged in April 2021 with the usual dosage of 4.5 grams per litre, the Clos des Goisses Extra-Brut 2012 from Philipponnat offers generous aromas of pear, pomelo and peach mixed with notes of honeycomb, walnuts macadamia and fresh bread. Full-bodied, broad and vinous, it's fleshy and textured, with a surprisingly concentrated core of fruit, compelling mid-palate fullness, brilliant acidity and cushiony mousse. Demonstrative, even dramatic, its youthful generosity is deceptive, as it is only with a bit of bottle aging that true complexity will emerge.

A wonderful nose blending a wonderful combination of fruit and sweet pastry elements - lemon, apple, grapefruit and pear with hints of butter biscuit and toasted hazelnuts. The palate is surprisingly bright and filled with textured, lively and persistent bubbles, supported by balanced acidity and overall depth of taste. This very well constructed champagne, from the excellent 2012 vintage, offers body, weight, precision and energy, with great length. Every sip is so satisfying. Disgorged in April 2021 after eight years on lees, 60% in Burgundy barrels and 40% in stainless steel. A dosage of 4.5g/l which is the same for each Clos des Goisses. This wine, as well as the 1996 vintage, are new to the Place de Bordeaux this year, Philipponnat being the first Champagne house to use the distribution network.

This unique vineyard, one of the steepest in Champagne, produces fabulous wines. The richness contained by the minerality of the terroir is balanced by the structured fruits of the Pinot Noir which bring touches of toast, spices and white fruits. Drink until at least 2025.

The review of the wine of France: 98/100
The champagne has a slightly stained golden yellow color. The palette is juicy with a successful Pinot, red fruits, gingerbread, hardwoods, notes of cereals and muesli. The mouth offers ample and broad with a beautiful mousse. It is the perfect match between power and quality freshness. The wine is built for long aging.
